Researcher, Legal Expert in Cybersecurity (80-100%)
The Role:
As a Researcher at the European Cyber Conflict Research Incubator, you will engage in impactful projects examining the intersection of cybersecurity and legal frameworks, with a particular focus on spyware and export regulation. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to high-stakes research that informs policy and regulatory practice in a rapidly evolving field. What We Offer:
- Salary: £37,000 – £42,000 per annum (approx. €44,000 – €49,000), commensurate with qualifications, experience, and location.
- Location: Flexibility within the UK, EEA, or Switzerland. ECCRI operates as a remote-first organization, allowing you to work primarily from your home location.
- Contract Type: 1-year fixed-term contract, with potential for extension or transition to a permanent role.
- Working Hours: Full-time (80-100% FTE).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on legal issues related to cybersecurity, focusing on spyware, company transparency laws, export regulation, and related fields.
- Analyze how regulatory frameworks impact cybersecurity practices across sectors, producing insights for industry and policy stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project teams to create high-quality research reports, papers, and policy briefings.
- Present research findings to stakeholders from academia, industry, and government.
- Support the development of research proposals and contribute to ongoing projects within ECCRI.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience: Proven experience in legal research with a focus on cybersecurity or related regulatory fields (e.g., transparency law, export control).
- Education: A law degree (LLB, LLM, or equivalent), ideally with coursework or experience related to cybersecurity or regulatory compliance.
- Attributes: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team.
- Skills: Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are essential. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in spyware is a plus.

What We Are Looking For:
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in conducting research on cybersecurity or related topics (e.g. spyware, ransomware) is highly desirable.
- Education: At least a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in cybersecurity, international relations, computer science, international law, or a related field.
- Attributes: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Skills: Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are essential. Familiarity with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods is a plus.

Graphic Designer (20%)
The role:
As a Graphic Designer, you will play an important role in supporting the European Cyber Conflict Research Incubator’s mission through creative and impactful design. Your work will help us convey complex cybersecurity concepts through engaging visual content, enhancing both our reports and educational materials.
What We Offer:
- Salary: €28,200 per year (full-time equivalent), pro-rated to 20% FTE (€5,640 annually).
- Location: Flexibility within the UK, EEA, or Switzerland. The European Cyber Conflict Research Incubator operates as a remote-first organization, allowing you to work from home.
- Contract Type: 1-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension or transition to a permanent contract.
- Working Hours: 20% FTE (approx. 1 day per week).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design sketches, illustrations, and animations to support the development of reports, research papers, and educational content.
- Collaborate with project teams to create visuals for presentations, websites, and promotional materials, ensuring alignment with our branding.
- Ensure that all visual materials communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
- Use programs like Procreate and other relevant design software to deliver high-quality digital content.
- Contribute creative input during brainstorming sessions and refine ideas through visual storytelling.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience: Previous experience in graphic design, with a portfolio showcasing a variety of design projects. Experience in creating educational or research-focused materials is a plus.
- Education: A degree or equivalent qualification in graphic design or a related field is desirable but not essential.
- Attributes: Creativity, attention to detail, and an ability to translate technical concepts into visually engaging designs. Time management and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are key.
- Skills: Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Procreate and Affinity. Knowledge of animation and other design tools is an advantage.
